Dana is the best piano teacher I have had! I had 2 teachers as a youngster, then 2 teachers as a college student, and these latter experiences felt very “ho-hum.” I would go back to my apartment and feel lukewarm about practicing. As an adult, I’ve had 2 more piano teachers — the first bored me for five months with scales and drills and did not let me play any songs, and then I found Dana. He has allowed me to pick the music I enjoy and keeps urging me on to improve, giving me precise tips about fingering, dynamics, and the emotional impact of each piece. My skills have soared under his watch! I am so thrilled to be learning from him!

I have been taking piano lessons from Dana for the last 6 years. Dana is an effective and diligent teacher with unlimited patience. I am an older student and holding a busy job. My lessons were scheduled after work. He understood my situation and always found a way of transitioning my working mood into learning mood. He also understood the different ways people learn. My best practices were at home, and he encouraged me to show him my practice recordings and to play the music I like. He is honest, motivating, communicates easily, and always on time. He has inspired me to play better in music not just to know the pieces.

As an almost-retired woman, I was apprehensive about lessons, but Dana helped me overcome my fears, led me to pieces that I could manage and thereby helped me to a sense of accomplishment. I will never play Carnegie Hall, but he has helped me progress to the point where I feel confident enough to play in front of friends. I have seen him be very calm and encouraging with much younger pupils and enjoy the semi-annual concerts by these children and young adults.

Two words come to mind when I think about Dana as a music instructor: Patience & Confidence. My twin sons have taken piano lessons from Dana for the past 4 years. They had no previous training before starting with Dana at the age of 14. Over the years, Dana has shown incredible patience with each of them, while firmly encouraging their steady development in music.
